The seminar presented many opportunities for sharing ideas among its participants.

As part of its efforts to further develop the network of support it provides its seafarers’ families through its respective Family Chapters, Knutsen Philippines Inc. hosted a Next of Kin Handling Seminar held by Mr. Stein Vangen, a Chaplain from the Norwegian Seamen’s Church. This was the first time that the latter organization held it in the Philippines, which was a result of mutual collaboration between the two organizations. The seminar was attended by key representatives from the KPI Family Chapters along with office personnel who deal directly with the seafarers’ next of kin on a regular basis. All participants were evidently grateful for the support from Knutsen OAS that made this activity possible.  This in-house course provided invaluable opportunities wherein Mr. Vangen shared practical insights on giving meaningful support to seafarers’ next of kin. Throughout this course the participants also engaged in role-playing activities and reflective discussion, among others.

The Next of Kin Handling Seminar was held in line with KPI’s recent efforts at strengthening its support to its seafarers’ families and loved ones. The need to develop this support was further realized by the formulation and implementation of its Emergency Response Bill, which indicates measures in which the company provides immediate support and timely information to affected seafarers’ families during times of crises.
