The First Pacific Leadership Academy in Antipolo was witness once more to the annual Knutsen OAS Officers’ Conference hosted by Knutsen Philippines, Inc. last 17-19 March 2014.

The audience, delegates and participants were officially welcomed by Knutsen OAS’s Owner’s Representative, Capt. Einar Aaserud and Knutsen Philippines, Inc.’s President & General Manager Bryant C. Arcilla. Their respective remarks briefly recalled the past which the company endured to be where it is today, with Capt. Aaserud emphasizing the promising opportunities that lay ahead, while Mr. Arcilla professed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who have graciously supported the companies’ collaborative efforts and provided inspiration for their continuing work.

The conference then proceeded with presentations from the delegation representing the main office in Haugesund, Norway, who included Fleet Manager Capt. John Helland, who provided an updated overview of the KOAS and KNOT fleet ; Crewing Manager Mr. Ben Jensen, who presented the latest opportunities career and training development in KNOT and KOAS; Vetting Manager Capt. Hilmar Lund-Andersen, who discussed the latest vetting results and pointers on further improving them; and the HSSE & QA Director Mr. Geir Hagen, who talked about current issues on health and safety, along with the company’s measures on upholding  its quality levels on these standards.

Presentations were also given by KPI’s department managers and supervisors to inform the audience of the most important and latest updates on the company serving them. Other honoured guests speakers also presented in the audience with their equally-important topics, particularly Compass Training Center who presented updates on MLC 2006 and STCW 2010; and the Norwegian Hull Club’s Assistant Director Stein Are Hansen, who provided an interesting and interactive topics regarding the proper handling of maritime accidents and emergency response norms in the 21st century.

Among the new faces in the Conference this year were representatives from the Family Chapters whose respective organizations’ unified and selfless efforts in the wake of the previous year’s natural calamities were a crucial help in the company’s relief efforts. These Family Chapters proved all the more essential in the company’s endeavours  of providing consistent support to its seafarers’ loved ones, whom KPI’s President and General Manager acknowledged as being among “the real reasons why [KPI’s seafarers] do the work they do… the ones for whom our seafarers work so hard… who make facing all these challenges all the more worth it.”
